Downtown Chicago Engagement Session - Julia & David
Photographing a Downtown Chicago Engagement Session
There’s something timeless about summer evenings in downtown Chicago, especially when you get to explore the city with a couple like Julia and David. Their engagement session was laid-back, full of laughter, and beautifully authentic—everything I love about photographing couples who are simply themselves in front of the camera.
We kicked off the session on LaSalle Street, with the historic Chicago Board of Trade building providing a classic city backdrop. This stretch of LaSalle is one of my go-to spots for Chicago engagement photos—it’s iconic, timeless, and perfectly captures the grand architecture of downtown.
From there, we made our way to the LaSalle Street Bridge, which always offers incredible views of the river framed by the city’s towering buildings. Julia and David were so easy to photograph—they have a natural, playful chemistry that shined through in every shot. They kept things light and fun, but still had these sweet, quiet moments that felt truly authentic to who they are as a couple.
We wrapped up the session on the median of Wacker Drive, just as the city lights began to flicker on. It’s one of my favorite spots to end a downtown engagement shoot—the mix of soft twilight and glowing city lights creates such a dreamy atmosphere. Even though downtown can always bring a few background challenges with people and traffic, I’ve photographed enough sessions here to know how to work the angles and keep the focus right where it belongs—on the couple.
Julia and David’s easygoing vibe and genuine connection made this session one of those perfect Chicago summer evenings I won’t soon forget. The best engagement sessions don’t need to be overly styled or packed with props—they just need two people who are comfortable being themselves and having fun together. Julia and David absolutely nailed that.
