Jennifer & Joe’s brunch wedding at Cheney Mansion in Oak Park was the perfect blend of elegance and ease. Cheney Mansion is one of my favorite venues in the Chicago area for intimate weddings — with its historic vintage charm, beautiful gardens, and natural light-filled spaces, it offers a little bit of everything in one place.
Their June wedding day started off with a little unpredictability — summer rain came and went for most of the morning. While their ceremony was originally planned outdoors, the property’s stunning greenhouse became the perfect plan B. With its open design and natural light, the greenhouse created a warm and romantic atmosphere, making their vows feel even more special.
Inside the mansion, the vintage architecture and grand staircase set the stage for portraits of the couple before the rain cleared. Jennifer carried a bouquet of soft blush-toned flowers from Moss Modern Flowers that paired beautifully with the mansion’s timeless aesthetic. One of the most moving moments came during the reception, when Jennifer’s father gave a heartfelt speech that had everyone reaching for tissues.
When the sun finally broke through, we headed outside into Cheney’s sprawling gardens. The greenery and winding pathways made for dreamy portraits, and it felt like the entire day came full circle — everything worked out in the best way possible.
For the reception, Jennifer & Joe kept things fun and relaxed, serving mimosas alongside a spread of donuts — the perfect brunch celebration touch. Their guests mingled throughout the mansion’s rooms and gardens, enjoying the cozy yet elevated atmosphere that Cheney Mansion naturally provides.
What I loved most about photographing this wedding was how perfectly the venue suited Jennifer & Joe’s personalities. They are a relaxed, sweet couple, and Cheney Mansion’s mix of vintage elegance and intimate spaces allowed their day to feel both personal and unforgettable.
